Fat Grafting

Fat Grafting

Fat Grafting also known as Fat Transfer is a cosmetic surgery treatment. It is natural-appearing, lasts a long time, and is safe. It is an effective filler used for changing body contour, revising scars, filling depressions created by liposuction, and rejuvenating the hands and face. Fat is injected into areas requiring volume-enhancement produces safe, long-lasting, and natural-appearing results as volume is replaced to tissues where fat is diminished. The process usually involves harvesting fat from one part of the body, washing/ purifying it, and the carefully re-injecting it with specially designed needles into the areas requiring augmentation.

Popular procedures include:

1. Facial Rejuvenation

The aging face is generally characterized by loss of volume in the mid-face, along with wrinkles and fine lines. Fat injections can correct these signs of aging, as they soften wrinkles, and also restore volume to areas such as the cheeks and chin. They help make the face look refreshed and more youthful.

2. Buttock Augmentation

Fat transfer can improve the shape and contour of the butt, and is a much safer option than butt implants. The fat is prepared as normal, and then injected into specific parts of the buttocks, to improve definition and proportion.

3. Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer can also be used to increase the size and fullness of the breasts. For women looking to enhance their breasts by about one cup size, fat injections offer a natural alternative to implants. Fat transfer is also used for breast reconstruction, to restore breasts after mastectomy.

What does the treatment involve?

CONSULTATION: At the start of any Fat Grafting treatment a thorough consultation will take place, where our specialized dermatologist will evaluate your skin and discuss with you your specific skin needs and concerns.
PROCESS: The fat is first harvested and extracted with a special suction cannula known as liposuction technique. Once enough fat is obtained from the donor area, it is then purified. It is then processed and purified, before finally being re-injected into the specific part of the body that needs enhancement. The areas that were injected are then massaged by the doctor to create a satisfactory contour.
TIME: The procedure takes about 1- 3 hours, depending on the area being treated.
FINISHING: After the procedure you might notice redness for the first few hours after the treatment, this is normal and will subside.
NUMBER OF TREATMENTS NEEDED: The procedure may need to be repeated several times to achieve the desired result

Frequently Asked Questions:

Fat transfer is generally done under local anesthesia and are generally done using small cannulas, and the procedure is not usually painful. However, the pain varies depending on the part of the body that is being injected. Fat injections to the buttocks appear to be the most painful of all the procedures. While much of the pain can be traced to the liposuction portion of the procedure, there is generally significant post-operative swelling, as well as some soreness. This may last for several weeks after butt augmentation. For most of the other procedures such as facial rejuvenation and breast augmentation, clients report only minor discomfort.

Following your fat transfer procedure, you will notice results immediately – more evidently in the first few weeks after your treatment when any swelling and bruising have subsided. It can take up to six months for a surgical fat transfer to fully take effect, as some of the injected fat may be reabsorbed by your body during the first few months after the procedure.

You may occasionally have bruising, injection marks, pain at the injection site, swelling, and redness around the injected area. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within 2 to 3 weeks. The degree of swelling is most dependent on the area injected.

Patients who benefit from fat grafting are people who desire augmentation or filling of volume-deficient areas. The most commonly grafted areas include the face and hands.
