Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma

This state-of-the-art therapy uses your own body’s regenerative power – namely the precious platelets of your blood – to treat dull, wrinkled, acne and sun-damaged skin. When going for a PRP treatment our practitioner will take some blood from you, which will be processed using a centrifuge device to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood making the concentration of platelets three to four times the normal level. This platelet rich plasma is then injected back in the places that need the most attention, fighting the visible signs of ageing.

Platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that prompt the skin to release stem cells. These cells heal the area as they would a wound, by creating new cells, including new collagen and blood vessels. It takes 30 days for the new collagen to regenerate itself helping tighten, smooth and improve skin tone.

What does the treatment involve?

CONSULTATION: At the start of any PRP treatment a thorough consultation will take place, where our specialized dermatologist who will evaluate your skin and discuss with you your specific skin needs and concerns.

PROCESS: During the PRP treatment your face is carefully cleaned and prepared.
1. The nurse will apply a topical anesthetic to your face to allow for greater comfort during the procedure.
2. The nurse then draws blood from a vein in your arm into a tube.
3. The blood is set in a centrifuge machine for about 10 minutes, which rotates the blood at a high speed. This causes the platelet-rich-plasma, which is lighter than the rest of the blood, to rise to the top, allowing it to be easily removed.
4. The Platelet-Rich-Plasma is transferred to syringes which the specialized dermatologist will then inject deep into the dermis.
5. The remaining Platelet-rich-plasma will then be mixed with hyaluronic acid and dermapen for a microneedling treatment will be used on the top layer of the skin for best results. The dermapen generates micro-channels that produce direct passages to the top skin layers to promote healing.

TIME: The procedure takes about 45 minutes.

FINISHING: After the procedure you might notice redness for the first few hours after the treatment, this is normal and will subside.

NUMBER OF TREATMENTS NEEDED: We generally recommend 2-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for you to see the full effects. For very deep lines or scars you may need 4-6 treatments in total.
